For 2024 The Cathedral of Thorns offers special arts, artists, musical artists, storytelling artists and events, where the visitor can enjoy a real culture evening. Every month there is a special performance or exhibition of local artists or performers for visitors to meet and enjoy.

Debuutoptreden van Dibo & Randal Corsen bij Kathedraal van Doornen

WILLEMSTAD – Tijdens ‘A Night at Cathedral of Thorns’ op zaterdag 23 september fleuren zanger Dibo Doran en pianist/bandleider Randal Corsen met een serie speciale gasten voor de eerste maal de unieke entourage van de Kathedraal van Doornen naast Landhuis Bloemhof op met hun muzikaal optreden.

Regelmatig is er een evenement bij de Kathedraal van Doornen waar de grondlegger ervan Herman van Bergen achteraf een exclusieve rondleiding geeft aan gasten.

Müzik sin Barera
Op zaterdag 23 september vanaf 8 uur ‘s avonds treden zanger/componist Dibo D (Doran) en pianist/componist Randal Corsen op met een formatie die verder bestaat uit Ravello Antoin (bas), Laverne Le Blanc (drums), Chris Walle (keyboard), Royston Hato (percussie) en Josuah Boetius (gitaar). Behalve nummers van het album Müzik sin Barera dat eerder dit jaar in april bij Jazz Fest werd gepresenteerd, vertolken ze ook andere nummers, waaronder van de legendarische Luty Samson.

Tevens kunnen gastoptredens tegemoet gezien worden, heel in het bijzonder die van singer-songwriter Levi Silvanie met Dibo en Randal belooft heel speciaal te worden, omdat Levi de laatste zeven jaar niet meer op een podium op Curaçao te bewonderen is geweest. Verder liggen in het verschiet optredens bij enkele nummers van de zangeressen Lizz Schot en Christine Corsen (de dochter van …).

Kaartverkoop
De show zelf begint klokslag 8 uur, maar de poort en bar gaan al om 7 uur open waarop Dj Lu-C in de aanloop naar het concert zorgt voor achtergrondmuziek. Kaarten a ANG. 65 per persoon zijn verkrijgbaar bij Mensing’s Caminada, Landhuis Bloemhof en The Zumpiña Shop (naast restaurant Number Ten), en indien er over zijn die avond bij de ingang. Vanwege de gelimiteerde capaciteit van de locatie is het handig om tijdig kaarten te bemachtigen. De entree en parkeerplaats zijn zowel aan de kant van restaurant Number Ten, als aan de andere kant bij Landhuis Bloemhof en zelfs bij de Orco Bank; er is dus van beide kanten een ingang.

Singer Léah Kline joins
at Cedric Dandaré & Curajazzstars

WILLEMSTAD – During the upcoming ‘Cathedral of Thorns by Night’ on Friday, August 4, the jazz formation Cedric Dandaré & Curajazzstars will perform with another special guest, namely the world-renowned American jazz singer Leah Kline, who is temporarily on the island.

Every month, a cultural musical event takes place one evening at Doornen Cathedral, where its founder, Herman van Bergen, gives an exclusive tour to guests.

For Friday August 4 from 8 pm, guitarist and bandleader Cedric Dandaré will perform with a formation that also consists of Eric Calmes on bass, Dennis Aalse on trumpet, Chris Wallé on keyboards, Lonte Conradus behind the drums, and both Ernie Gregorius and Tshepho Seshaba on percussion. Cedric Dandaré is considered a pioneer who has managed to combine Curaçao music with jazz with great international success. For years he has been active as a music teacher on his native island and occasionally performs on special occasions or in the studio, often with fellow local musicians.

Leah Kline
For this occasion, he was brought into contact with the singer Léah Kline, who is temporarily staying on the island and occasionally performs songs with local formations. Kline is an American who has wandered the world after a dance education. Amsterdam has been its home port since the turn of the century. There she participated in many musicals and she also emerged as a jazz singer. She has already made a name for herself in the Netherlands, Germany and France. Now there is a distinct opportunity to show her skills to the Curaçao public.

‘Herman is een eigenzinnige en kritische Kunstenaar of maker zoals hij zichzelf liever noemt. Hij is opgegroeid in Nijmegen waar hij van jongs af aan te maken krijgt met astmatische bronchitis. Je hoort hoe hij dankzij deze ziekte zijn talent kan ontwikkelen en wat voor rol ziekte speelt in zijn artistieke leven.

In Nederland ontmoet hij zijn vrouw Daisy en samen vertrekken zij naar Curaçao waar Herman door wandelingen de Sumpinas, oftewel doornen ontdekt. Je hoort hoe deze gehate doornen veranderen tot zijn Cathedral of Thorns; oftewel Kathedraal van Doornen. Een enorm labyrint van doornen ter ere van Moeder Natuur en de Vrije Geest. Onlangs heeft hij voor dit prachtige meesterwerk de prestigieuze 2022 Innovator in Arts award van de International Sculpture Center (ISC) in New York mogen ontvangen.’
